Your Chance ... to contribute to the review of the EYFS
The coalition Government has honoured Labours commitment to review the EYFS.
The review brief causes some concern and it is vital that as many people as possible have their say on what they like about the EYFS and what they feel needs to be changed or developed.

Please click below for further information provided by Margaret Edgington, a highly regarded Independent Consultant who works closely with Early Excellence.

Outdoor Play Resource Collections... now available by post
Over the last 18 months we have worked closely with a number of local authorities to support the development of outdoor play provision. Through this work we have designed a specialised range of outdoor play boxes which provide a wide range of resources to promote rich experiences for imaginative and investigative learning outdoors.

In order to make a wider impact on practice we have developed a small leaflet with details of these boxes, which are available by post. We hope you and your staff find them a useful resource in building rich outdoor provision.

The new leaflet can be viewed on screen or downloaded from the
OUTDOOR PLAY
section of the website. Alternatively, if you prefer to receive a copy by post, please phone our centre on 01422 311314.

Introducing our New Head of Centre

Earlier this year we were delighted to welcome our newly appointed Head of Centre, Sharon Hogan. Sharon has had a successful career in early years education, and has held a number of senior management posts including Headteacher of Canterbury Nursery and Children’s Centre in Bradford and School Improvement Adviser in Leeds.

Sharon has enjoyed her first term in the centre, building on the work of Jenny Woodbridge, Joint Director of Early Excellence, who many of you will know retired at the end of May.
Resource Centre Developments ... Introducing New Resources
After a very busy Spring term, the Easter holiday closure provided an
opportunity to review and refresh the displays in our resource centre and introduce new books and resources to support children’s predictable interests related to this time of year.

In addition, following visits in February to the National and International Toy Fairs, we will be introducing a number of new resources including:
eex resource centre a range of wooden wild and farm animals suitable for small world play with very young children;
eex resource centre sets of small world figures including firefighters, construction workers, medical staff and astronauts to develop storying in KS1;
eex resource centre a collection of innovative pieces of natural wooden scenery to extend small world fantasy play;
eex resource centre ropes and pulleys to extend investigative learning outdoors and resources to enhance the construction of dens.
Firefighters
These resources will be introduced during May and June, so there will be lots of new things to see when you next visit.
To arrange a visit to our centre please contact our admin team on
